Attracting and retaining tech talent has always been one of the primary constraints on tech companies but as ‘traditional’ companies are becoming tech companies themselves this is becoming a more universal conundrum. Tech Talent Day will look at building, growing and recognizing our tech talent pipeline including highlighting local tech employees and employers. The day will also feature additional community workshops and information sessions addressing the “tech talent” theme.

The way people and goods travel from point A to point B is changing, driven by a series of converging technological and social trends: the rapid growth of car-sharing and ride-sharing; demographic changes; the increasing viability of electric and alternative powertrains; new, lightweight materials; and the growth of connected and autonomous vehicles. The result is the emergence of a new ecosystem of mobility that could offer faster, cheaper, cleaner, safer, more efficient, and more customized travel and everyday living.

According to Forbes magazine – Southeastern Michigan is quickly becoming the world’s centre of mobility:

“People may assume Silicon Valley is where all the paradigm-shifting tech innovations are happening these days, but Southeast Michigan is quietly maintaining its position as the capital of the automotive world, even as the industry moves into the high-tech future. According to the Detroit Regional Chamber, Michigan leads the nation in the number of connected and automated vehicle projects” – Forbes, June 25, 2018.

Did you know?

  • Michigan ranks No. 1 in the nation in connected and automated vehicle projects;
  • It is the leader in mobility-related patents, far outpacing runner-up California with almost 2,600 patents filed over the last five years;
  • By the end of 2019, the state will have more than 500 miles of roadways equipped with the infrastructure required for connected vehicles to communicate with each other.

Given the proximity and the interconnectedness of the Windsor-Essex Region to Southeastern Michigan, mobility is an area of great opportunity, especially given the importance of the automotive sector, along with the growing automation cluster in the Windsor-Essex Region. Join us Friday, November 2nd for a day dedicated to exploring the world of mobility. Hear from industry experts and companies who are transforming the way we move people and goods. Have your chance to experience the future of mobility with our very own Mobility Showcase featuring companies such as John Deere, etc… The world is ‘moving’. Are you ready?
