Convoy Technologies Canada Ltd., a leading provider of advanced safety and monitoring solutions for commercial vehicles, hosted the grand opening of their new 18,000-square-foot Canadian manufacturing facility located at 2516 Binder Crescent in the Town of Tecumseh.
Together with representatives from the Province of Ontario, Invest WindsorEssex and Town of Tecumseh, Convoy Technologies showcased their production plant, marking another major investment in the region. As part of this $17-million investment, the Province of Ontario is providing $323,984 in funding support through the Regional Development Program, Southwestern Ontario Development Fund.
Convoy Technologies was founded in 2008 and manufactures cameras, monitors and accessories to provide cloud-based telematics services and artificial intelligence-powered driver training systems for heavy-duty on- and off-road vehicles and power sports usage.
Invest WindsorEssex together with the Town of Tecumseh began working with Convoy Technologies in September 2022 and supported their expansion to the region. The Indiana-based company evaluated several locations including Mexico and Indiana prior to selecting Windsor-Essex, Ont. to establish their new Canadian facility. Ultimately, Windsor-Essex was chosen based on proximity to the United States and primary markets, security, cost as well as the region’s labour force expertise in advanced manufacturing.
Over the next four to five years, Convoy Technologies will be investing between $2 to $4 million in facility upgrades and equipment and is expected to employ between 35 to 50 people. The current facility has been totally renovated to provide the necessary cleanliness and environmental conditions to manufacture camera products. Once in full production, the company plans to continue to invest in advanced automation technologies to improve both product quality and manufacturing efficiencies.
Convoy Technologies also expects to launch several new and innovative products from the Windsor-Essex facility, where most of the company’s research and development will be conducted. The company cites the region’s post-secondary institutions, the collaboration opportunities and pipeline of talent available as other critical factors in their decision to locate in Windsor-Essex.
