Creating with CoSpaces: CLC WEEK (18+)

December 2, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Empower students to become creators of technology using VR

This workshop is intended to prepare you to teach our Virtual Fable Retell OR Building Objects in 3D with TinkerCAD lesson plan. Teach it during CLC Week (Dec. 6-10) to join thousands of educators across Canada in a national teach-along that will awaken your students’ imaginations, ambitions and wonder. This workshop has a very special guest speaker! Jackson Aimiuwu is an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Solution Architecture leader. Jackson leads a team that helps companies solve their business challenges and achieve their objectives, with state-of-the-art cloud technologies. He is a mentor for Young Black Professionals and an ally for Women in STEM. Come listen and learn how to inspire your students to go further and dream bigger.

Virtual reality (VR) provides immersive storytelling and gaming opportunities, and is a new medium for creativity and self-expression. VR has become increasingly accessible through tools like CoSpaces, which allows learners to build their own 3D creations, animate them with code (using block-based coding), and explore them in Virtual or Augmented Reality.

In this workshop, we’ll walk you through an example lesson which can be easily customized to align with any literary works of focus in your Language Arts class. Practice testing and debugging as you create your own virtual space in CoSpaces, and share or explore examples from other educators as well!

This session may be applied to grades 7-9.
