Hackforge: Electronics Club Workshop: Connect Electronics to the Internet of Things
July 30, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FREESuppose you have a cool electronics project idea that you want to control or monitor remotely. You might be familiar with the friendly and easy to learn Arduino platform, but how can you connect an arduino to the Internet?
At previous Arduino workshops we learned how to load programs onto an Arduino, how to lay out a circuit onto a breadboard, how to receive information from sensors and how to turn on lights.
The goal for this activity will be to connect an Arduino to a Wifi network. This will allow you to try fun new things, such as using a smartphone to change the colour of groovy LED mood lighting. For the cost of admission, you will receive an Adafruit Feather M0 with Wifi to keep. This Arduino chip is compact, fast, and includes a wifi module and battery power circuitry to make it easy to make your electronics project mobile.
Some background experience with the Arduino platform is necessary for this activity. If you attended one of our previous workshops or have done an introductory arduino tutorial on your own, then you have enough experience.
*The Internet of Things is a popular buzzword which describes electronic devices that can send or receive information over the Internet.
