(Hackforge) Web & Software Guild Talk Night

February 24, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

One of the best ways to speed up your application is to do more at once by spreading the work out between multiple processing cores on your server – or even between multiple servers. We can do this concurrent work with traditional languages like Python and Java, but it’s often difficult to reason about and can take lots of time and extra tools to manage.
By looking at two very different functional languages – Clojure and Elixir – we’ll learn about functional programming and discover how a functional approach can help us solve problems with concurrency much more easily than traditional languages.
Some of the specifics covered will be suited to experienced programmers, but if you’re comfortable with the basics like variables, functions and loops you should be able to follow along with the concepts presented.
After the talks we encourage you to join us for refreshments and great conversation.
