OpenStreetMap Windsor-Essex | Meet the Cycling Guide Mobile App

July 23, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

FREE

Since early 2022, Hackforge has been on mission to bring bicycle routing to Windsor-Essex. To accomplish this we started the C3Tech initiative and launched WindsorEssexCycling.ca.

Recently, we connected with the Waterloo-based Cycling Guide Foundation (CGF). Earlier this summer CGF launched it’s mobile app, Cycling Guide. This cross-platform application offers low-stress cycling routes using available infrastructure. It is based entirely on OpenStreetMap data. Basically, CGF beat us to releasing the app we set out to build. So now we’re partnering with them!

Currently, Cycling Guide routing only works in the Waterloo Region and Guelph. However, Hackforge is working with CGF to bring it to Windsor-Essex, too! In this one-hour walkthrough, CGF Executive Director Mark Connolly will be giving a demonstration of the app. Joining him will be the project’s OSM expert David Trueman and data lead Amy Colford.

This event will be of interest to anyone into cycling, OpenStreetMap, or app development. It will be a great starting point for planning how OSM Windsor-Essex can work on collecting, correcting, and maintaining our roadway data.

This free, virtual-only event will be taking place on Sunday, July 23rd at 7pm. Register via Eventbrite to attend.
