To Innovate & Protect: Unlocking the True Value of Patents (virtual)

The Law and Entrepreneurship SpeakHER Series 2023 is a virtual speaker series that explores the implications of the law in business decisions faced by entrepreneurs in various industries. Each session involves a dialogue with an accomplished female Intellectual Property (IP) expert navigating the worlds of patents, trademarks, and data. The Law and Entrepreneurship SpeakHER Series 2023 is a partnership between EPICentre and Professor Myra Tawfik, Don Rodzik Family Chair in Law and Entrepreneurship.

The Law and Entrepreneurship SpeakHER Series 2023 is pleased to welcome Erin Pisko, Vice President of Strategy at Innovation Asset Collective (IAC).

In addition to her leadership role at IAC – a not-for-profit that assists small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the cleantech sector with their IP needs – Erin is a registered patent agent with years of experience helping businesses develop their patent and IP strategies.

Erin will guide attendees through the fundamentals of patents: tools to transform innovative ideas into protected assets. The session will discuss the patent acquisition process, key patent considerations along a venture’s innovation journey, and how patents can provide a competitive advantage to businesses as they scale. In addition to situating patents in the start-up space and discussing how IP can complement the value proposition of a business, the session will explore the unique challenges and opportunities facing women working in IP – whether as inventors, or patent professionals. Attendees can also expect to glean valuable insights about careers in IP, a vital and dynamic sector.
