Windsor Hackforge presents: Book Club: The Peripheral by William Gibson

July 25, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

FREE

Join us this month for a casual discussion on William Gibson’s 2014 novel, The Peripheral. The Guardian says, “The ‘peripheral’ of the title is not, as you might think, a mouse or a printer. It is a body-for-hire: in the post-Jackpot world you can strap a special doohickey to your forehead, close your eyes and wake up – somewhat disoriented – piloting a genetically engineered android on the other side of the world or, indeed, in another timeline altogether.”
Read the book ahead of time and come to this event to chat about it. William Gibson’s The Peripheral was described by GQ thusly:
“…set in not one but two futures. The first, not far off from our own present day, takes place in a Winter’s Bone-ish world where the only industries still surviving are lightly evolved versions of Walmart and the meth trade. The second future is set further along in time, after a series of not-quite-cataclysmic events that have killed most of the world’s population, leaving behind a monarchic class of gangsters, performance artists, and publicists in an otherwise deserted London.”
