Women in AI Awards 2022 North America

Business leaders from across the US, Mexico and Canada are coming together to launch the Women in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Awards North America. The WAI awards will honor female pioneers who take the road less traveled; the women who pave the way for others to reach even further, and for those who dare to dream even bigger.

Join us as we kick-off this awards initiative and hear from champions of technology from Canada, Mexico and the United States talking about ways we can come together to build a more inclusive AI industry.

Leslie Lynn Smith is the National Director for GET Cities (Gender Equality in Tech) at SecondMuse Foundation. Her work is powered by a vision for American cities that leverages economic justice and inclusion to enrich and empower individuals, families and communities. She brings to the role years of experience in economic empowerment work and community-based business development. Before joining GET Cities, Smith served as the founding president and CEO of Epicenter, a nonprofit hub for the greater Memphis entrepreneurial community; president and CEO of TechTown, Detroit’s most established business incubator and accelerator; and prior to that, director of business acceleration for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.

  • Davar Ardalan, Founder of IVOW AI and Executive Producer at National Geographic

Davar Ardalan is a journalist and tech entrepreneur focused on data equity, artificial intelligence and cultural storytelling. Davar is the Founder of IVOW AI and also National Geographic’s executive producer of audio, where she oversees the award winning podcast series, “Overheard” as well the narrative podcast “Into the Depths”. Prior to this, she was deputy director of the Presidential Innovation Fellowship Program in Washington D.C. and before that a veteran journalist at NPR News for two decades. In May 2014, Davar was the recipient of a United States Ellis Island Medal of Honor, for individual achievement and for promoting cultural unity. In Fall 2021, through her work at IVOW, Ardalan launched a conversational AI scholar on Google Assistant to preserve the wisdom and work of her late mother, Islamic scholar, Dr. Laleh Bakhtiar into 21-century voice technology.
