30 Days at WEtech: An Intern Perspective

June 27, 2012in Blog 0 Comments

By: Vedant Pandey, WEtech Finance Intern

It isn’t common to start a new job only to have your first day be a welcoming party which consists of established and upcoming entrepreneurs. I guess it really isn’t that common either to have your second day on the job be an even larger showcase with entrepreneurs from all over the city, and…a reunion with your high school robotics team.

When I started at WEtech, it was exactly when StartUP Canada made their stop in Windsor. My day began at the University of Windsor, and then ended up at the Walkerville Brewery for the Entrepreneur Town Hall.  It was a lot more than what I expected for my first day on the job. For a 3rd year business student, it was quite the place to be.  Mingling with entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds, and doing what I love.  With film and photography as a passionate hobby of mine, I was only more than pleased to lend a hand in gathering media for the StartUP Canada event.

By the time the day was done, I collected 18 business cards and thought to myself  it was an accomplishment.  The next day, when I came into work at The Accelerator, there was a new wave of entrepreneurs showcasing their businesses! I had pleasure of trying some of Thai Palace’s exotic new sauces, and met an entrepreneur developing an application which in my opinion will change the face of recreational sports for all ages – Lockeroom.  What made the day was Team 772 from Sandwich Secondary School who brought in their 3-point shooting robot “Droid”. Everyone gathered around to see this amazing robot autonomously shoot hoops.

When I joined WEtech, my expectation was for a finance internship which would help me in my pursuit of a Chartered Accounting designation. Now, after one month of working at WEtech, I am not only doing the finance work I expected, but I’m working with the Sandwich Robotics team to prepare them for next year, helping to develop three new educational outreach programs, and developing promotional media for WEtech.

I guess I have to admit, this is a good place to be for the summer.
