August 2, 2012in Opportunity Alerts 0 Comments

Request for Quotation for Project Budget Submission

Windsor Public Library is applying for a Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports Cultural Strategic Investment Fund.

This project will require the development of a database to store information about rock bands and a data visualization add-on to replicate the “Rock Wall” at Phog Lounge.  See project description below.

This quotation is required to submit three competitive quotes with the budget proposal.  There is no guarantee that the proposal will be approved.  Notification should be received by November 2012.

Interested parties are asked to submit a quote by email to by 5:00 pm August 8, 2012:

Jean Foster
Director Community Development and Partnerships
Windsor Public Library

Purpose:  To create a digital archive ofWindsor’s musical history. This would be a community project that would enable community members to add their own band history and connections.

Source of Information: Initially, the person working on the project would enter in all of the information that has been gathered on the physical map. A campaign to add information and keep it updated would be waged using Twitter and Facebook, as well as seeking the participation of active organizations such as the Windsor Federation of Musicians, Windsor Symphony Orchestra, and University of Windsor’s school of music. Windsor Star archives at the Windsor Public Library will be used to gather information on band members and their history. A call to local venues will also be made to collect gig posters which may also be scanned and entered in the band’s bio.

Technology Development Work:

  1. Develop database structure and search engine to store and add band information.  Librarian Eleni Hughes will be available to assist in data record definition, vocabulary for tags and search screens for Simple and Advanced searches.  Records must be able to store text, graphic and audio content / links.
  2. Data Visualization:  Create system which will display search results in the same mapping format used for the physical “wall”.
  3. Data submission:  A function to allow future additional information to be added by non-technical staff such as band members.  This will require data validation functions.
