Aspiring video game makers in Windsor will get a chance to hear from one of the most successful developers in Canada later this month.
Michael Schmalz, president of London-based Digital Extremes Ltd., will be the guest speaker at a Nov. 29 seminar on the video game industry organized by WEtech Alliance.
“If you know the videogame world at all, you’ve got lots of guys in their basements making cool things,” says WEtech’s Rob Whent. “And that’s happening in Windsor, but part of the problem these guys run up against is finding talent.”
Whent says Schmalz will speak about “where the rubber meets the road” in terms of turning those basement games into successful companies.
Digital Extremes develops games for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC consoles. The company was named one of the top 10 employers to work for in Canada by the National Post, and one of Canada’s top employers for young people by Maclean’s Magazine.
The seminar will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Caboto Club. The cost is $25 for WEtech members and $35 for non-members.
