What is MBinDesign?
We do Industrial Design. When we say this, oddly enough, many people ask “so, you design buildings?” Well…not exactly. Industrial Design is the blending of Art and Engineering with an emphasis on design. Our Industrial Design experience include designing things from watches, furniture and displays to backyard play sets, mountain bikes and medical equipment. It would be easy to think that this is an odd assortment of experience. However, one might be surprised at how much crossover there is in design when you study ergonomics, aesthetics, product application, manufacturing, target markets, form and function. This is why we are big fans of interdisciplinary practices.
Products/services you provide?
Our foundation is routed in industrial design (product design). This includes concept sketches and ideation, 3D modeling, product renderings and mock-ups. We also incorporate other aspects of design including graphic, interior and package design.
Anything new and exciting happening within your company?
We are currently working on an accessory for smartphones and tablets. The fun part though, is that the more we develop the concept, the more ideas we have on how it can apply to other products.
Where did the name MBinDesign come from?
MBinDesign is short for Modern, Balanced Industrial Design. Modern, for our commitment to study and learn about the latest design trends and techniques. Balance is for our approach to design. ‘New’ doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better just like ‘tradition’ doesn’t necessarily mean it’s right. There should be purpose behind any design. When designing our logo we wanted something to represent ‘us’ as a group. We are not very big however, our combined education, experience and skill-set crosses North America, Central and South America and Europe. We wanted something that represents us, a small group with a strong skill-set. Entre the Loggerhead Shrike, the bird in our logo. It is an attractive, small bird (about the size of a robin) which also migrates to South Western Ontario, who’s survival tactics are similar to those of larger, raptor birds. We designed the curves of the M and B so that it compliments the shape of the Loggerhead, and as the eye continues along the logo it follows a modern sans-serif font.
What type of customer are you looking for?
We can help provide design solutions for people, companies or groups who are looking to developing a product idea or have a product that could use refinement. We can provide fresh, creative solutions to issues you may have. If you have an idea and feel that your concept is where you want it to be. We can also provide 3D modeling and renderings.
What’s your favorite technology gadget and why?
Oddly enough it’s the gadget mentioned above in question 3. Hopefully someday, others will consider it their favourite gadget in the future as well.
Why did you join WEtech Alliance?
From a business point of view, WEtech is a great place for network opportunities. From a social perspective, it is a great enterprise which serves to promote and grow the Windsor/Essex region, not only locally but on an international level. This is a movement we are excited to be part of.
