What is PanoVR?
PanoVR is a Windsor based company that specializes in web based 360 degree virtual tours for Google.
What products/services do you provide?
If you have ever wanted to know what a business looks like before going there? Then we have a product that you’ll love.
We have been contracted by Google to provide a service called Google Maps Business View. This is essentially Google Street View for the inside of your business. We can embed the interior of any business directly to Google Maps. Being visible and cutting edge allows your potential customers to find you with ease. This is embedded to all Google products (search, maps and G+) and also to your website and social media outlets.
Anything new and exciting happening within your company?
Yes! We have just worked with The MediaPlex at St. Clair College to embed the interior of their facility to Google Maps. Students that would usually not be able to tour the location, due to geographical restrictions, can now tour the building straight from a Google Search and Google Maps.
We are also working on what Google calls “the hotel program”. Google is currently negotiating with all the major hotel brands to provide Street View for all hotels in North America. We have been selected to work with local hotels to provide this service. If you’re staying at a hotel, you will soon be able to jump straight into the hotel from a Google search! This is a huge undertaking, especially given the number of locations that will be covered.
How did you come up with your company name?
The name PanoVR is made up of two elements. “Pano” being the common abbreviation for “Panoramic Photography” and “VR” for “Virtual Reality”. Pretty simple!
What type of customer are you looking for?
We love working with people that have a passion for using technology to advance their business. Businesses that are focusing on expanding their online presence and are excited to increase the exposure of their brand online.
What’s your favorite technology gadget and why?
I have a long list but if I had to pick one it would have to be my MacBook Pro. A virtual tour can produce up to 200GB of still images that have to be merged, stitched and edited. This can sometimes take days to process. This machine is a work horse and, touch wood, has performed without fault.
Why did you join WEtech Alliance?
Being able to interact in a group of technology focused peers is very exciting and having the opportunity to build and innovate to further develop Windsor/Essex County is a great thing to be involved in.
