FIRST Robotics is gaining traction every year and is becoming a huge competition in Canada and Internationally. Local high schools have all began their preparations for building their robots for the 2014/2015 academic year. There are a total of 17 teams in Windsor and one in Chatham. If this is up your alley, please check it out and let us know if you’re interested in mentoring.
Every high school team requires mentors to the students. These mentors are parents, engineers, business people, skilled trades individuals, etc. The competition is no longer just about building a robot, it requires teams to work as a business unit with structure: Finance, Advertising, Marketing, team building and leadership skills, programming software, wiring, machining, and more.
The commitment varies by individual and by the team and also timing of the project. It will average to about 4-8 hours per month. Should any of you be interested in becoming a mentor to one of the local High School Teams, please let me know and I will connect you.
