Anything new and exciting happening within your company?
We are launching a new Phone App for the iPhone and Android device, for the volunteer fire departments. Currently when a 911 Call is placed to the Fire Department, the Dispatcher sends out a pager notification to the volunteer firefighters. They would then respond to the Fire Station. The Dispatcher would have to wait until the firefighters arrived at the Station to determine the number of responders. Sometimes a second page is required to get more responders, this can take several additional minutes and valuable time is wasted. MORE IMPORTANTLY, until the firefighter actually reaches the Fire Station, no one is aware that the Firefighter is responding. Should the firefighter become involved in an accident, while responding to the station, it’s quite possible no one would know of the firefighter’s accident. If the accident occurred at 2AM, on a quiet stretch of road, the firefighter could wait for hours for help to arrive. Because no one knows he is responding, and his family has no reason to think he didn’t make it to the fire station. The firefighter, if injured, would have to wait until family notices his missing for an unusual lengthy time. Some fires can last upwards to 8-10 hours even last days.
Our SIREN application, soon to be released for the Android and iPhone, is directly linked to the 911 Dispatch Center. When a Fire call is received, a notification is immediately sent to SIREN. An alarm is displayed on the Firefighters phone with the call details. The firefighter then indicates if he is “responding”, or “unavailable”. If he is responding, SIREN captures the Firefighter current GPS location and sends it back to our data center in Toronto. We then project the firefighter’s current position on a live map in the local 911 Center and their Fire Station. As the firefighter moves towards the Fire Station SIREN will update their position every 3 meters traveled until they arrive. Within seconds of the 911 call being dispatched, SIREN will bridge the communication gap and make the Dispatchers immediately aware of the number of responders and more importantly, SIREN will help keep our First Responders Safer.
