Enactus Windsor is a non-profit, student run organization founded in 2005 at the Odette School of Business. Enactus strives to empower local community members, instill entrepreneurial action, and enhance the economic health of the community by enabling the progress of student leaders and establishing sustainable projects throughout the Windsor-Essex area.
Project Releaf is a social initiative developed by Enactus Windsor that aims to increase the quality of life in developing communities. By providing individuals with the resources and education necessary to create a business focused on ceramic water filter production and distribution, Enactus Windsor is empowering them to tackle water related issues close to home.
It is estimated that 1/9 people do not have access to clean drinking water, which equates to approximately 750 million people. Furthermore, 358 million people that do not have access to clean drinking water live in Africa. Water related illnesses cause 3.4 million deaths per year, with 500,000 of them being children. With each minute that passes a child somewhere on Earth will die due to these severe illnesses and unsanitary conditions. These are statistics, but we’ve seen the results first-hand.
With big aspirations comes costs. In order to launch the project in our pilot location, Marite, South Africa, we require the funding to purchase the facilities to produce and store water filters, cover costs associated with consulting partner organizations, and start-up materials.
We are excited to announce that we will be launching a crowdfunding campaign hosted on www.GoFundMe.com. The funds generated from the campaign will be used to cover the aforementioned costs. We ask for your spiritual and monetary support through spreading word about this project throughout your personal network to raise the funds necessary to begin and to increase awareness about the water crisis in Africa.
You can find the link to the campaign here. which features a video they have created about Project Releaf and the water crisis.
Together we can make an impact on developing communities that raises their quality of life, provides education on safe water practices, and prevents deaths due to water related illnesses.
