What is Trackside Innovations?
Founded in 2014 by Michael Barkey and Sean Maloney, Trackside Innovations provides Data Acquisition Equipment and Services to the entire racing community. We specialize in providing Automotive and Motorsports packages which include all of the required equipment, as well as data analysis services for a low seasonal lease rate. We aim to provide a solution that minimizes the investment of our customers time and resources in researching equipment and learning how to use and understand the data provided by data acquisition. Our analysis packages not only provide low cost access to our high end proprietary acquisition equipment, but our customers also have access to over two decades of automotive experience.
How did you come up with your company name?
Our Company name was derived from our aim at launch, which was to provide trackside analysis services to motorsports teams through the use of innovative technology and services. While we are actively expanding our services to industrial applications, our core was founded in motorsport.
What Products/services do you provide?
We offer custom data acquisition packages to fit the needs of our customers. Some teams require specific types of data and don’t want to deal with sourcing, ordering, and installing the required sensors for measuring this data. For these teams we can provide custom solutions for their specific application and needs, which starts with a simple phone call to our company.
Anything new and exciting happening within your company?
YES! While we are currently ramping up for the release of our bronze package, we are also busy working on offering expanded services and equipment with our silver and gold packages. We are aiming to release the silver package sometime during the 2016 season, and the gold package thereafter. The silver package will be aimed at teams which can benefit from having additional vehicle metrics immediately at the side of the track, but with the same level of ease and support provided by our Bronze package.
Additionally, we are also working with a local manufacturer of mobile equipment in providing similar services and solutions for the needs of industrial applications. Many industrial companies are posed with the same conundrum of requiring data and equipment to collect this data to understand their own internal processes. This data, while very important, may only need to be collected once or occasionally and the cost of equipment and training to do so may be prohibitory for small or medium sized businesses. We would like to offer a low cost, low effort alternative to collecting this valuable information for these customers. We would like to encourage anyone interested in these types of services to contact us so that we can discuss their needs and understand how we can assist.
What tech gadget or resource (i.e. blog, magazine, online tool, app, Youtube video, etc) has played a role in growing your company?
As with all 21st century companies, social media plays a large role in our communication with our customer base, but beyond this our inspiration is largely encouraged by the exponential growth of small tech and IOT (internet of things). The acceptance of these technologies in the market shows growing awareness in the general population and is an indicator of where future development should occur.
What idea do you have to help accelerate our local Tech community?
Communication is absolutely critical in expanding knowledge and resources in the tech industry. The massive growth surrounding this industry is ultimately due to the ease with which we can communicate with one another due to this tech. The industry is its own positive feedback loop in this regard, the technology drives Its own development. What once started with “Phone Phreaking” loop arounds has since evolved through several iterations into BBSs then internet chat, forums and social media. These tools of communication have provided the resources necessary to fuel the technological revolution, and any attempt to accelerate it should be derived from the success of the past: increase the ease of and access to communication.

Why did you join WEtech Alliance?
Initially we were encouraged by Jessica Barkey, who worked at a company out of the Downtown Windsor Business Accelerator. Jess is the wife of my partner Mike Barkey and has been integral in keeping us in touch with the community and world at large, while we have our heads buried in developing our technology.
