What is True Phantom Solutions?
True Phantom Solutions was incorporated in October 2014 as a spin-off from the research project run at the Institute for Diagnostic Imagining Research and University of Windsor. The designs and creates bio-medical phantoms. The ultrasound/MRI compatible phantoms are important tools in the development of innovative diagnostic imaging techniques as well as in neurosurgery treatment planning and the training of nursing and medical school students. Researchers no longer have to rely on human cadavers- which are costly and degrade quickly. After almost two years of operation, True Phantom Solutions has customers all around the world (Canada, USA, Israel, South Korea, France, Germany, Italy and China).
What products/services do you provide?
True Phantom Solutions designs and creates bio-medical phantoms. Our lifelike phantoms are one-of-a-kind and made to mimic the acoustical, physical and mechanical properties of real biological tissues. The anatomically correct phantoms are created with the exact bone density and porosity. Using 3D printing technology and synthetic material, the phantoms are made to be an exact model of anatomical structures. The phantoms are fully customizable and able to suit any bio-medical project. Researchers no longer have to rely on human cadavers- which are costly and degrade quickly.
Anything new and exciting happening within your company?
True Phantom Solutions is about to introduce a brand new product: the arm simulator for phlebotomy training. We have been working on it for a while and we expect it to be ready for sale by the end of March 2017. It is quite exciting to see how this new product will be welcomed by our current and new customers. Frankly speaking I personally cannot wait to see it!
How did you come up with your company name?
When it came to choosing the company’s name, we have started from preparing a list of requirements for a good name. After the internal brainstorming we have come up with the following:
- It has to be easy to be remembered by customers,
- It should give a customer a rough idea about our product,
- It should be easily replaceable by an abbreviation which cannot have any silly meaning in English and other common languages.
The name True Phantom Solutions meets all of those criteria and the whole team likes it so we decided to go for it!
Any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs out there?
We are excited to bring new products to our website and expand the collection. We are now shipping to all of Canada representing Windsor on a large scale.
How has WEtech Alliance supported your business to date?
WEtech has provided us with a great support in terms of business advisory where Deborah Livneh is our Entrepreneur-in-Residence. Moreover, we receive help in market intelligence and marketing for which we are really thankful.
We also really appreciate all of their efforts with finding, preparing and reviewing various grant applications and increasing the company’s exposure by using WEtech website, social media and public events.
What ideas do you have to help accelerate our local tech community?
Windsor as a border city has a great chance to grow its local Tech community. Luckily or not, right now almost everything is concentrated on a car industry. To change this and to grow also our local Tech community, we need more exposure of what is happening in our city except the car industry. We need more public tech events like conferences, exhibitions and forums. By organizing those events we would bring more investors and more money to grow our local start-ups.
