DETROIT, Mich. — The best minds of the medical device and digital health sectors in Southeast Michigan and Southwest Ontario will gather at the MedHealth Summit in Detroit on Apr. 19, 2018, to explore innovative technology based solutions to the region’s most important healthcare challenges. This unique event is held annually to provide medical innovation businesses, healthcare providers, research institutions, entrepreneurs, economic developers, insurers and investors on both sides of the border with an opportunity to network with, learn from and pitch their innovations to potential supporters and collaborators.
“In order to succeed in this space, you have to constantly be out there meeting people, talking to them and exploring how you can come together to make your vision a reality,” says Irene Spanos, director of economic development for Oakland County, Michigan. “The MedHealth Summit is the perfect place to do that — it takes the ‘work’ out of networking.”
The day-long event provides numerous engagement opportunities for participants, including one-on-one matchmaking sessions, startup and investor meet ups, panel discussions, exhibitions, presentations and informal networking opportunities.
It was the diversity and quality of such interactions that inspired innovator and past participant Michael Anataran to return. “As a health and wellness mobile app developer, I was so impressed with the high level of thinkers who attended the event last year and the richness of our conversations.” He added, “I want to come back to learn more about how my company, CARROT Pass LLC, fits into the innovation process of health systems and how we can add value for others involved in healthcare.”
Also providing inspiration and guidance throughout the day will be the summit’s yet-to-berevealed keynote speaker — a chief medical examiner and professor with eight advanced degrees and board certifications who founded a medical school when he was just 18 years old. Attendees must discover who this skilled practitioner is.
The MedHealth Summit is a project of MedHealth, a regional healthcare innovation cluster comprising numerous healthcare providers, universities and economic development organizations in Southeast Michigan and Southwest Ontario.
“We realized pretty early on that we are stronger together,” says Irek Kusmierczyk, director of partnerships for WEtech Alliance in Canada and member of the MedHealth Steering Committee. “We understand how important it is to pool our resources, our talents, our assets and our people if we want to compete with other clusters and foster continued growth.”
The summit — provided with suport from members of MedHealth, TechTown Detroit, Renaissance Venture Capital Fund, Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Pure Michigan Business Connect, Hacking Health and the Detroit Regional Chamber’s HealthForward — will be held at the Garden Theater, 3929 Woodward Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, a full summit agenda or to register, please visit .
