February's Science Café Topic: Quantum Corrals for Future Computers

February 20, 2013 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

FREE

“Law and Order at the Quantum Corral” is the title of the Science Café to be presented by Dr. Eugene Kim at Science City this month. He will discuss his ground-breaking physics research and its relation to the future of computing at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, in the café at Canada South Science City.
Our use of computers has mushroomed and revolutionized our lives. The great progress we have witnessed in information technology during the last few decades is due primarily to the downsizing of electronics components, but we are reaching a limit where new technology based on quantum physics will be needed if the progress is to continue. In his talk, Dr. Kim, the Sharcnet Chair in Theoretical Physics at the University of Windsor, will describe his recent work on systems that overcome the limitations of present-day electronics.
As usual at Science Cafés, light refreshments will be served and there is no admission charge. Join us for a fun evening of easy exercise for the mind! The evening is part of a series of Science Cafés – free discussions of important science research for the general public – held on the third Wednesday of the month from October through June in the café of Science City at 930 Marion Avenue in Windsor. The series is sponsored by the Faculty of Science at the University of Windsor. At the next Science Café, on March 20, 2013, Biologist Dr. Jan Ciborowski will speak. The café in April will be replaced by our 8th annual fundraising Earth Day Dinner on April 17, 2013. It features cancer researcher Dr. Lisa Porter. Save the date!
Canada South Science City is located at 930 Marion Avenue in Windsor. For a poster and more information, visit our website www.cssciencecity.com or call (519)-973-3667.
