WEtech Alliance, YKNOT Windsor-Essex, City of Windsor’s Cultural Affairs Department and Arts Council Windsor & Region invite you to Social Media Day 2014 (#smday)
Mashable launched Social Media Day in 2010 as a way to recognize the digital revolution happening right before our eyes. Each year, thousands of people organize hundreds of meet-ups across the globe. From Australia to the Philippines, all the way to Sri Lanka and Morocco, countries come together every June to participate in this global movement. With over 1,500 cities participating, WEtech Alliance, YKNOT Windsor-Essex, and the City of Windsor’s Recreation and Culture Department are inviting all local social media enthusiasts to Windsor’s Social Media Day 2014 at the Sculpture Park:
Friday, June 27
12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Windsor Sculpture Park
Riverfront, east of Caron Avenue and the Caron Pumping Station
For Social Media Day 2014, we will attempt yet again to create Windsor’s largest social media sidewalk chalk display ever. How does this relate to social media? All participants must keep their chalk-thoughts to 140 characters or less (like the popular social media service Twitter). We’ll recreate the social web on blacktop inspired by our local arts, culture and heritage. This year’s chalking theme, “What ties you to Windsor-Essex” is in collaboration with YKNOT Windsor-Essex. Combine your high-tech smart phone with the simple form of chalk art, be inspired by the works around you, and come down to create by the waterfront.
New this year, join us on the grass with a locally grown picnic lunch for some outdoor fun and games including bean bag toss and ladder ball. Also, joining us this year is the Arts Council for Windsor & Region with chalkboard-based community visioning “Back to the Drawing Board – Beyond Four Walls’” and local chalk artist, Julie Butler. Julie will be transforming the riverfront space into a live-art gallery that you can contribute to. So, why not come out and tweet your thoughts and/or art!
Back to the Drawing Board – Beyond Four Walls’ is an outdoor interactive think tank for the public to chalk out their thoughts and ideas about their arts community. The Arts Council Windsor & Region asks members of the community to tell us “how they art everyday” by leaving us a line, doodle, or idea on our outdoor chalkboards
Social Media Day 2014 is an event being undertaken in over 1,500 locations all over the world. Additionally, Windsor’s event is unique in the landscape of Mashable Social Media Day events chalking it up to an “old-school” approach of communication.
Snap and post about your experience of social media in art, self-expression and communication on the scenic waterfront, or leave your message along the 1 km stretch of the Sculpture Park’s pathway to celebrate #tied2WE. To register, please visit www.smdaywindsor2014.eventbrite.com.
