September 30, 2020 – Optimotive Technologies Inc., Windsor’s leading development team for advanced autonomous vehicle solutions, announced the launch of their second generation autonomous development platform, IRIS 2.
IRIS 2 is a fully electric ATV based autonomous platform. It focuses on furthering the company’s development of innovative sensor technologies which will enable future autonomous vehicles to effectively handle the extreme weather challenges that current production vehicles have struggled with. Based on the heavily modified structure of an existing ATV-class vehicle, the Optimotive team has extensively retrofitted the vehicle with over a dozen sensors used in today’s vehicles. Subsequently, Optimotive added their own hardware and software innovations to the vehicle which will be put through a rigorous testing regimen over the next several months.
The testing that the IRIS 2 will go through will supplement the year long effort that Optimotive has focused on during the design and simulation phase.
“We now move from the lab into the real world,” says Scott M. Fairley, Founder and CEO of Optimotive. “I’m a firm believer that having the right tools is a tremendous portion of solving any problem, no matter how simple or complex. With the introduction of IRIS 2, we now have the proper tools to execute on our vision of autonomy in harsh weather environments.”
Once evaluation of the new platform is complete, the goal is for Optimotive to use the data gathered to fine tune their solutions and begin working with automakers and suppliers on future vehicle platforms.
Proudly Windsor-based, Optimotive will be exploring the possibility of local partners in a variety of industry sectors on both this testing program as well as future product development.
