TECH WEEK YQG is a week-long showcase of all things tech that brings together tech leaders, academic institutions and the community to build a unique experience for entrepreneurs, tech talent, researchers, investor.  The mission of TECH WEEK YQG is to promote, accelerate and celebrate our local tech community while providing unique perspectives from world-class speakers on what the future of tech holds. TECH WEEK YQG shines a big bright spotlight on the dynamic tech community in our region today.

There is one goal of Tech Vote and it’s to encourage our regional Tech Community to go out and vote in the 2019 Federal Election. No events are planned, however keep an eye out on social media for updates on useful tool and tech to assist you leading up to voting day.

Tech Vote: 2019 Federal Elections

Have your say in the upcoming federal election. Register or update your voter registration online and you’ll be set to vote.

To register and vote in the federal election, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old on election day, and prove your identity and address.

Windsor-Essex Tech Show: Building a Better Business Through Technology

October 22 @ 4:30pm at Caesars Windsor 
This year’s Tech Show is all about tech-enablement for small businesses. Hear from leading industry experts about the technology solutions and trends that will revolutionize small businesses. Network and mingle in the Kelcom’s Tech Lounge with dozens of exhibitors. This is your chance to ask the experts your most burning tech questions and challenges. The Show will kick off with keynote speaker, Casey Lynn, Strategic Partner Manager at Google Canada discussing ‘Marketing in the Age of Assistance’ powered by Postmedia Solutions. The event will conclude with two panel discussions on tech tools and trends for small business including discussions on cybersecurity, data analytics, e-commerce, internet of things, AI, and virtual and augmented reality with local tech experts from AlphaKOR Group, Kelcom, Shopify, Splice Digital, and Red Piston. Tickets are $40.

LADIES LEARNING CODE: HTML & CSS for Beginners (Chatham)

October 22nd at @12pm 

If you are looking to get  your feet wet when it comes to programming, then this is the workshop for you. HTML and CSS are the backbone of all websites, and knowledge of them is a necessity if you are interested in things like web development, creating marketing emails, or even blogging! The web without HTML and CSS would be would be a world without colourful, pretty websites, not to mention the web applications we all use daily. It’s easy to learn, and was designed so that everyone – even non-programmers – can do it. No fancy programs are needed, just Notepad and a web browser!


LADIES AND TEENS LEARNING CODE: Virtual Reality with A-Frame (Chatham)

October 22nd at 4pm

Learners will leave with a better understanding of A-Frame, including the many possibilities provided through the A-Frame Registry. We’ll practice using the built-in visual 3D inspector to test and use components from the Registry, so learners can continue to develop their projects from home. DETAILS.

Tech Talent Day will look at building, growing and connecting our tech talent pipeline including highlighting local tech employees and employers.


Teens Learning Code: Virtual Reality with A-Frame

October 23 @ 4PM

WEtech Alliance has partnered with Canada Learning Code’s Code Mobile to deliver a special Teens Learning Code Session. We’ll review how to use A-Frame’s asset management system, and add animation and interactivity into our projects. At the end of this workshop, learners will also have the opportunity to use Google Cardboard to explore each other’s A-Frame scenes in 3D! Learners will leave with a better understanding of A-Frame, including the many possibilities provided through the A-Frame Registry.


Land the Job: Tips for the Perfect interview, Co-op and First Impression

October 23rd at 4:30pm

Land the Job is for students & recent graduates from the University of Windsor and St. Clair College who are preparing to enter the tech job market.  The panel of tech employers and young professionals will share their tips & insights on: Succeeding at the interview, Making the right impression – in person and online and Maximizing the co-op experience.

Driving Diversity: Moving the Dial in Tech and Beyond with Claudette McGowan

In celebration of Tech Week YGQ, we are inviting founders, leaders, women in tech, male champions, and professionals to join us in discussing how we can promote successful women leaders and entrepreneurs who are creating a more diverse tech, innovation and business ecosystem. Claudette is the Chief Information Officer, Enterprise Technology Employee Experience at BMO and has been recognized by WXN as Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada & Digital Finance Institute: Canada’s Top 50 Women in FinTech (2019).


Ladies Ladies Learning Code: Generative Art Making with Processing for St. Clair College Students

October 24th @ 12pm

WEtech Alliance and Zekelman School of Business and IT has partnered with The Code Mobile to offer a hands-on & interactive workshop to equip St. Clair College students with the skills of the future. They are offering a Generative Art Making with Processing. This workshop will focus on teaching the fundamentals of computer programming in a visual context, and highlight how simple mathematical equations can create beautiful and engaging outcomes.

Given the proximity and the interconnectedness of the Windsor-Essex Region to Southeastern Michigan, mobility is an area of great opportunity, especially given the importance of the automotive sector, along with the growing automation cluster in the Windsor-Essex Region.

Tech Mobility Day: YQG Mobility Afternoon

Join WEtech Alliance and WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation and the Institute of Border Logistics and Security on Friday, October 25th for an afternoon dedicated to exploring the world of mobility. Hear from industry experts who are transforming the way we move people and goods. Have your chance to experience the future of mobility with demonstrations of Canada’s largest publicly available Virtual Reality CAVE.

Tech Awards are a fun, informal way of recognizing and celebrating our technology innovators of all stages for their achievement and success in our community. Close to 150 people will attend, comprising tech companies, CEOs and tech start-ups, tech talent plus corporate advisors, community and media.

We’ll be honouring all of our Tech Award winners with a unique, Windsor-made Tech Award created with the help of our #YQG tech friends, DERKZ and Parker DKI.  Close to 200 people will attend, comprising tech entrepreneurs, CEOs and tech start-ups, plus corporate advisors, investors, tech advisors and media.

This year’s award will piggyback on the 4th Annual Nerd Olympics “Nerd Cup” Ceremony powered by Code Ninjas and the official closing of Tech Week YQG 2019 at Imagine Cinemas Lakeshore.

Following the Tech Awards, guests and community are welcome to sit back and enjoy a TECH movie favorite. Concessions (popcorn + drink) are included in your ticket price and can be redeemed during Tech Movie portion of the program. To coincide with its 35th anniversary, our Tech Movie will be “Ghostbusters”. Come dressed up in your favorite Ghostbusters costume for your chance to win cool tech prizes.
