LADIES LEARNING CODE: Intro to Browser Extensions with JavaScript

During this experience, we’ll learn the basics of JavaScript – with a focus on variables and loops – and use this programming language to interact with websites to perform tasks like replacing or modifying content. We’ll explore permissions and discuss ethics around extensions to help learners protect their privacy online. Learners will utilize developer tools to explore things like DOM manipulation and leave with a personalized extension installed in their browser. We’ll also provide resources for learners to modify the extension for additional browsers, and make it available for others to install and use!

Proteus Innovation Competition Launch

With 18 services ranging from a realtime database, push notifications, and machine learning models, Firebase has everything you need. Additionally, 1.5 million apps currently use Firebase, so you know it is production proven.
Todd works on the Firebase team at Google. He joined Google as part of the acquisition of Crashlytics from Twitter. He loves working on fun projects, building communities, and teaching people of different skill levels how to use Firebase.

Andrea Stapley, Assistant VP of the Globally Security Operations, Sun Life Financial

Andrea Stapley is the Assistant Vice President of the Cloud Computing team globally for Sun Life Financial. She holds a BA from McMaster University and is responsible for Cloud Architecture, Engineering, Operations and Security teams as it relates to Cloud Services hosted with Amazon. Her teams are responsible for developing the Global Cloud roadmap for the Enterprise and executing on that roadmap. The teams architect the cloud solutions for Sun Life and deliver the services required from an engineering and operations perspective for their clients. Before the Cloud role, Andrea was the Assistant Vice President of Security Operations globally at Sun Life Financial. She was responsible for developing the Security Program, architecting the technology used to secure the enterprise and then executing on the security strategy and roadmap. Andrea has been in the Security and Operations Infrastructure field for over 28 years and has held various senior roles at both Rogers Telecommunications and the Bank of Montreal. Andrea continues to be passionate about the IT industry and she is extremely focused on supporting women in their IT careers. She is a #1 International Best-Selling author of the book “Empowering Women to Succeed- Leap” and has just published her second book this year “365 Empowering Stories”. In 2017 Andrea was a keynote speaker at SecTor.
