WINDSOR, ON (April 18, 2019) – Two local robotics teams are headed to For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology (FIRST) World Championship in Detroit. Team 772 (Sabre Robotics) and Team 4903 (Mustangs Robotics) are set to compete in the FIRST World Championship on April 25, in Detroit.
The Sabre Bytes Robotics Team 772, from Sandwich Secondary School, LaSalle, Ontario, was established in 2001. Their team consists of approximately 46 high school students and 12 mentors. The team is divided into four sections: Mechanical, Electrical, Programming, and Business (which is further split as Public Relations, and Communications). All of these sections work collaboratively to allow the team to function to its highest potential.
The Mustangs Robotics Team 4903, from Vincent Massey Secondary School, Windsor, Ontario, was established in 2013-2014 with the help of a vice-principal from Sandwich Secondary School (Team 772) who moved to Massey. In their beginning years, they only competed in local events. However, in 2015, they won playoffs and advanced to Worlds. Within their team, they value determination, initiative, and creativity no matter which part of the team you’re on.
“We are very proud of all 8 of the local teams that qualified for Provincial Championship and teams 772 and 4903 that are now headed to World Championship in Detroit.” says Larry Koscielski, Chair of Windsor Essex FIRST Robotics.
